I am always on the look out for new and different products to stock at Quilt Fabric Delights. Designs that are a bit different and exciting and Camille Roskelly's Thimble Blossom designs certainly fit the bill.
Recently I started stocking Camille's patterns and had the good fortune of interviewing her
Tell us a little about yourself.
I grew up in a wonderfully small (two stoplight) town called Rigby,
Idaho before moving to Las Vegas a few years ago. I have been
surprised how much I love living here! I am first and foremost the mom
of two crazy energetic little boys, Aiden (3) and Canon (2). They keep
me on my toes, too say the least! (Especially little Canon who has
recently decided that he can fly...) Life is always interesting around
here, and it is a good thing I love to stay up all night, otherwise it
would be tough to get anything done! A few of my favorite things are
fabric, anything chocolate, blogging, architecture, and polka dots.
How long have you been sewing?
I have been sewing for as long as I can remember. I don't recall a
certain time in my life that I was taught how, I think it was just
always a part of me. I am a 6th generation quilter, so I am pretty
sure that part was inevitable!
Your mother (designer and owner of Cotton Way) has been involved in the quilting industry for some time, did you always want to follow in her footsteps?
Oh heavens no! She works too hard! :-)
My mom has always been such a great example to me, and I have always
admired her amazing creativity and work ethic. She has been running
her company Cotton Way for 19 years now, and is still going strong.
We are working on a project together that I am SO excited about, so
keep an eye out!
Where and/or how do you find your inspiration?
My inspiration comes from EVERYWHERE! I am continually amazed at
this, and carry a notebook everywhere with me to write down whatever
comes to mind. Flowers, scrapbooks and antique stores are a few of my
favorites.
*Do you have a favorite piece you've created? If so what is it and why?
This is a tough one... I would probably have to say either Bloom or Sitting Pretty. I am in love with anything aqua right now!
Where do you see yourself and Thimble Blossoms in 5 years time?
I really don't know! Hopefully in somewhere a little bigger, first of all, because it is starting to take over my house. (My poor husband!) If there is one thing I am sure of, it is that life is full of surprises. You never know where it will take you.
What advice do you have for anyone wishing to start their own business?
Go for it! It will take a lot of love, patience, hard work, and
very little sleep, but in the end, it is just so worth it. Best of
luck!
Whew, I hope you made it through all that! Come over and visit me at thimbleblossoms.com sometime, and of course, happy sewing!
Camille
Thanks's Camille. Vanessa had a stack of fabrics put aside for me to make a quilt for her and Bloom is the perfect pattern for the fabrics she has chosen. Aqua marbleous for the main fabric and a selection of apricot/orange, greens and blues from Freshcut and Evelyn. Yummy! Just need find a minute or two to get started.
