I mentioned a little while ago that we have been working away to bring lots of wonderful projects to you in 2010.  I know it is not 2010 yet, but I am so excited about our

So how does it all work? 

The Club will run throughout 2010, starting in late January.  Approximately every six weeks you will receive a kit for bag.

The bags have been designed especially for you and the Quilt Fabric Delights Bagalicious Club  by the following talented designers:

• Janelle Wind;
• Natalie Ross In Stitches;
• Sweetwater;
• Sue Daley from Patchwork with Busy Fingers;
• Helen Stubbings of Hugs n Kisses;
• Leanne Beasley of Leanne's House;
• Melanie Hurlston from Melly & Me; and
• Rosalie Quinlan.

The bags will vary in style from beach bags and bags for every day to gift bags, and  a variety of techniques including paper piecing and embroidery are used.  So there is something for absolutely everyone!

During the year there will be competitions, special offers, bonuses and other surprises for Bagalicious members.

Last Minute Gift Ideas

Finally, I have got here to post these.

The first one was a gift for a friend of Rachel's who had her birthday party last Saturday.  I used Melly's new pattern, My Folio & Folio Jnr.  Due to time restraints, ah well, yes I did leave it until the last minute to make it, I did make some changes to the embroidery.  You will see that I did not do the satin stitch dots.  I just did not have the time to do these as I would like, so left them off.  To compensate I did a stem stitch E rather than a back stitch and swapped the position of the running stitch.

It was that last minute that Rachel was standing at the kitchen bench with the wrapping paper, etc 15 minutes before the party started while I finished off slip stitching the binding.

I got there, we snapped a quick photograph, wrapped it up and off she went.  Best of all I managed to keep my promise to Rachel that I would make this for her friend.  So if I can whip one up in no time, you have plenty of time to make a few before Christmas.  I have intentions to have a stock of these in the cupboard ready for when needed, but I know me, I will continue to do them last minute.

Next promise to keep was to make another journal cover, this time for Vanessa's Secret Santa.  I used Janelle's Journal Secrets pattern but made up an applique "S" using word and machine blanket stitch and a running stitch to quilt.  I had great trouble giving this one away.  There's something about that groovy S that I appeals to me.  I may just have to make one for me too!

And this one really took so little time, a few hours and it was done.

Then it was time to wrap this Secret Santa present, and in with a great coincidence in timing I joined Kim Archer Workshops @ Home Jingle Bells Christmas.  Janelle Wind has long been a support team member there and I have been tempted to see what it is all about for some time, but have been resisting heading down the scrapbooking road, because I was worried about another obsession.  I was right, I'm hooked, maybe not on doing photograph layouts, but I love the way that the girls at Kim Archer Workshops use both fabric and scrapbooking supplies.

 

 It's a felt and fabric gift tag which was a lot of fun for Vanessa and I to make together.

This is just one of the fabulous inspirational projects you can see and learn in the workshops and I think you have a few hours left to join at the Early Bird Price.

So that's two quick projects and two promises kept.  Now to finish Vanessa's Year 7 Graduation Dress and their teacher presents.

Ghosh Sarah, Where do I start? LOL
The colour, the quilts, the fabrics, the threads. WOW! I love the variegated threads...they are gorgeous and I do love to stitch. Mostly is was getting a chance to see whats coming...how am I going to decide? It was just lovely to read your posts.
I so wish I could sneak in, but at least you allowed us to see some of it. Thanks :)

Red Brolly - Bronwyn Hayes

I can't believe how many photographs we didn't take. I have warned Garry that if he doesn't lift his game and stop talking so much and take more photographs next time that there is a queue waiting to replace him as my AQM sidekick.  I can tell you that that comment was met with raised eyebrows, whatever could he mean?  Me talk too much, oh I don't think so....

And in other exciting news - Bronwyn has a blog, finally!  Let's all head on over and welcome her to blogland.

Australian Quilt Market #10 - Final - Giveaway

Okay time to finish up before it is time for the next Trade Fair.  While the Australian Quilt Market is nothing like the ones held in USA for size, etc, they are a wonderful experience.  After two days of looking and chatting I usually return home inspired by exhausted.  I have not even covered half of the stands at the show but I wanted to give you a glimpse of what it is like to visit.  I do admit that it is one of the fun aspects of owning a business.

One of the really exciting things about attending is discovering a wonderful new product.  This year's discovery is even better because it is made by the loveliest Australian lady, who was genuinely overwhelmed by the response she received to her product.  I mentioned in an earlier post the hand dyed threads from Cottage Garden Threads.  These are just some of the thirty beautiful colours available in stranded cotton.  There is also a range of Perle threads which would be wonderful for hand quilting.  Pies & Tarts ladies, imagine quilting your finished quilt using one of these?  Stunning!

I have now had the opportunity to stitch with these threads and can I say that they are divine.  So smooth and I experienced no knotting.  The colours are beautiful and there are no light bits that disappear into your fabric like normal variegated threads.  The other bonus is that the threads come ready cut in lengths and the colour at both ends is the same.  That means that when you finish one thread and start another, the colour continues with no dramatic colour change.

I have used these threads for stitching up samples of Hugs N Kisses Life Is Beautiful quilt. 

The colour used above is called Larkspur and would look fantastic with Rosalie Quinlan's Grandmother's Flower Garden.  Those of you who go ahead and do Leanne's  Down in the Garden BOM will receive a skein of this colour in your thread pack.

Once the full range of threads arrive I will put together kits for Life Is Beautiful using these wonderful threads.

So I think that is about it for Australian Quilt Market 2009. I do have some bits and pieces to giveaway though including a diary from Quilter's Companion, templates from Victorian Textiles and a bottle of Quilt Wash (this is fantastic stuff and I must list it on the website before I use it all myself) and you could twist my arm to giveaway one of the Cottage Garden Threads.

Now for the indecision, should I giveaway each separately or make it one big beautiful parcel?   I think one lovely parcel including all the gifts, although if someone from overseas wins I will substitute the diary and Quilt Wash for a pattern or two since the weight of these would make sending international a little expensive.  So we will say if the first person drawn is from outside of Australia, we will have two draws.  Hope that makes sense.

Australia Quilt Market #9

Since the first trade show I visited in Sydney back in 2007, the A Day in The Country/Patchways stand has always been my favourite.  Sue and Rowan put in so much effort to make their stand look amazing.  Those of you doing Sue's BOM with Material Obsession will now just how talented Sue is.  Unfortunately this year I don't have an overall shot of the stand but these photographs will give you an idea of the effort involved.

The fabrics in the quilt on the wall are from the new range which will be available early next year.  I managed to bring home a fat quarter bundle and have used it in my head at least in so many projects.  The fabrics work with so many of the fabrics we currently have in stock, along with lots of those we have on order.  Such incredible colours.

I can't believe we took so few photographs here.  Every where you looked there was another little detail, beautiful fabric flowers that I am sure will be popping up in a shop near you if the number of shop owners pulling them out to see how they were made was anything to go by.

This quilt was on their stand at the last market and I obviously wasn't the only person to beg Sue for a pattern.  You asked and Sue has obliged (ooh you can see some of the flowers on the wall next to it)

Australian Quilt Market # 8

Time is marching on so it's about time I finished up the Australian Quilt Market posts.  These photographs are from the Moon-Shine Design stand.  Monica has come up with some beautiful new patterns and with Monica handing the distribution side of her business over I am hoping we will see more and more new patterns from her in the future.  I make no secret that Monica's bag patterns are the best   Her instructions are always so clear and easy to follow, that you can't help but make the project successfully.

Monica has written a new book called Quilt as You Go the Moon Shine Way which is due for release in early December.  The book contains 5 brand new quilts with designs to suit all levels of sewing experience.  Each quilt can be made into a lap, single or queen size quilt.

The quilt on the right is called Fancy Free and Monica has made this one using lots of fabrics from the Whimsy range.

At Quilt Market Monica also released new bag and clothing patterns.  The clothing patterns were beautiful and would suit all figure types and are suitable to tackle if you have not made clothing before.

 

We have ordered these patterns so keep an eye out for them at our what's new page and in the meantime if you could like to look through the full range of Monica's patterns head on over to her website.  If I don't have the pattern you love in stock, just let me know and I will order it in for you.

Australian Quilt Market #7

I was so excited to see that Prints Charming now have a range of screen printed panels available. 

 

Sigh!!!  A little birdie told me that Cath & Kirsten (the Prints Charming girls) are writing a new book.  I can't wait to see it.

Australian Quilt Market #6 - My Favorite Things

I was entranced by the two quilts on the back wall of Kerry Gillespie's My Favorite Things stand.  Wonderful use of colour and love the quirky appliques.  The patterns make great use of the style of bright, bold fabrics that we stock at Quilt Fabric Delights.

Here they are again - Birds of Paradise on the right and Ducks on Parade on the left. 

We have ordered these fun quilt patterns along with a few others including Cuppilla and All Aboard that you can see below.

Love the cupcake caterpillar!  These two patterns are both for bed runners and or they could be wall quilts.

Australian Quilt Market # 5 - Life is Beautiful

Moving on now we are at the Pattern Press stand.  Here you find the wonderful designs of the Quilted Crow, One Red Robin, Chitter Chatter Designs and Helen Stubbings of Hugs N Kisses.

After last weekend I couldn't say it better - Life is Beautiful.  Helen's new Block of the Month quilt contains inspirational sayings that remind you of this every day.

This BOM pattern is available right now - here along with the optional extra of Iron on Transfers.  I love iron on transfers.  If you decide at 8.30 at night you would like to start a stitchery it takes no time to get it ready.  This quilt lends itself to so many different fabric options and we will be offering it as a Block of the Month with the addition of fabric, with lots of choice in fabric.  Before going to Melbourne I had started a sample with a normal variegated thread, but since discovering the Cottage Garden Threads I will be stitching up some more samples to show you how lovely this quilt can look in your chosen style, whether it be brights, pastels or country or even scrappy.

The construction of this quilt has Helen's trademark cleverness and once you have made the four patch blocks you have also nearly made the circles.  Very clever.

and you can see peaking out from behind Little Lady, so, so beautiful.  If I was a baby I'd love this on my cot.  Susan if you are reading this, maybe you need this one for your Grandmother's hope chest.  You see my sister Susan has two sons, but has a houseful of girly quilts.  We always tell my nephews that they better provide her with a granddaughter or two in due course.

Once again, these patterns will be in the shop as soon as Helen has a chance to get the orders out to me.
